About

This is where Chicago's creative legacy lives.

The Chicago Creator Class is an annual editorial platform and a growing cultural institution — a record of the people building the city's creative future, kept with the seriousness their work was made with.

Mission

To document Chicago creativity with permanence — publishing an annual volume that treats the city's makers as subjects worth a feature, not names worth a mention.

Chicago has never had a shortage of talent. What it has often lacked is documentation: a single place where the work is recorded carefully, photographed consistently, and written about with attention. The Creator Class exists to close that gap.

Each volume gathers a class of creators across disciplines — visual arts, fashion, music, media, beauty, and experience design — and gives each of them the same editorial treatment. Together they form a panoramic view of Chicago creativity today: bold, magnetic, and unmistakably authentic.

Vision

An institution measured in volumes, not campaigns.

A campaign ends. An archive compounds. We are building toward a shelf — a run of volumes that, read together, explain what Chicago was making and why it mattered, decade by decade.

That means designing for scale from the first entry. Consistent discipline codes, consistent portraiture, consistent structure. Volume One reads the same way Volume Ten will, and everything published stays published.

Selection Philosophy

Four questions we ask of every name that reaches the room.

  1. 01

    Body of work over reach

We read the practice, not the follower count. Audience is context; it has never been criteria.

  2. 02

    Chicago as the through-line

The city has to be present in the work — as origin, as material, as the place the practice is anchored to.

  3. 03

    Durability over moment

We ask whether the work will still make sense in ten years. The archive is written for that reader.

  4. 04

    One standard for everyone

Same room, same photography, same amount of space on the page. No tiers and no ranking.
